Michael Baker opened Bakers’ Best Catering in his hometown of Newton Highlands in 1984.

With a keen business acumen honed through a stint with his family’s manufacturing business, Michael set out to offer something he felt the market was lacking: fresh, high-quality sandwiches served by a friendly, attentive staff.

It did not take long for the neighborhood of Newton Highlands to respond to Michael’s mission. Almost immediately, the small storefront on Lincoln Street was bustling with customers hankering for a turkey sandwich, hand-carved by Michael Baker in the store’s window most afternoons as well as fresh muffins and other baked goods.

Almost as soon as the cafe opened, customers began asking Michael to cater their special events and family parties. Bakers’ Best officially began their catering business in 1991, about seven years after opening the doors. Seeing the catering business steadily increase, Baker’s Best decided to focus their attention to corporate deliveries and off-site catering.
